“Skating with the Stars:” Just in Time for Thanksgiving

By  |

During Tuesday’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars” ABC announced the cast of their newest celebrity driven reality show, “Skating with the Stars.” Hoping to ride on the five year success of its mother show “Dancing with the Stars,” “Skating with the Stars” will premiere on Monday November 22nd, on ABC with six new episodes.

This upcoming series will feature six celebrities paired up with six professional figure skaters to compete for top place. In each episode, the celebrity contestants learn a skating routine and compete. Judges critique and viewers vote. Check out the six celebrity contestants:

Sean Young

A recent newcomer to CBS’s Young and the Restless, Young is known best as a colorful actress and for her roles in 1982’s Bladerunner and 1987’s Wall Street.

Jonny Moseley

Moseley is an Olympian athlete.  He won the gold medal in the 1998 Olympics for skiing.

Vince Neil

Neil is the former front man for the rock group Motley Crue.

Rebecca Budig

Currently plays Greenlee Smythe on the ABC’s “All My Children,” and was once married to “Bachelor” alum Bob Guiney.

Brandon Mychal Smith

A Disney-Channel star, Smith appears on “Sonny with a Chance.”

Bethenny Frankel

Reality star Frankel was a part of the cast on Bravos’s “The Real Housewives of New York City” and “Bethenny Getting Married?” as well as competitor on Martha Stewart’s version of The Apprentice a few years back.

It’ll be interesting to see whether this show succeeds after the history behind reality skating shows. In 2006, Fox debuted “Skating with Celebrities” featuring celebrities like Kristy Swanson, the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the ’80s pop star Deborah Gibson, and Bruce Jenner, the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” father-figure. “Skating with Celebrities”quickly flopped in 2006 and was not renewed for a second season. This was surprising since “Dancing on Ice,” a similarly formatted skating show, is on the top of the ratings in Britain. Hopefully “Skating with the Stars” can do one better.
