Obama calls Kanye a “jackass”
The entertainment world was stunned when Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swifts acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Celebrities, fans and viewers showed immense support for the young country singer and relentless displeasure towards Kanye West.
The artist’s spectacle was so discourteous that it even sparked attention in the White house. Kanye West was apparently called a “jackass” by the President of the United States of America. Obama was off the record, but his diminutive slip up has alarmed and amused the public.
Before the interview began Obama was asked whether his two daughters were annoyed by Kanye’s interruption of Swift’s acceptance speech, according to an audio comment posted on TMZ.com. Obama replied, “I thought that was really inappropriate. What are you butting in (for)? … The young lady seems like a perfectly nice person. She’s getting her award. What’s he doing up there?” A questioner asks, “Why would he do it?” “He’s a jackass,” Obama replies, which creates laughter from several people.
Nightline co-anchor Tracy Moran broadcasted Obama’s comment on twitter Monday evening to his more than 1 million followers. He posted, “Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a “jackass” for his outburst at the VMA’s when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT’S presidential.”
Quickly the tweet attracted much attention on the microblogging site. Considering Obama was off the record, the network was required to issue an apology. An ABC spokesperson said, “In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again.”
The White House has made no comment concerning this incident, and they shouldn’t have to. The President has plenty on his table and although his comment was unnecessary, why should it matter? Besides, I think we can all agree that Kanye can be a jackass. Obama is just as insightful as the rest of us.
