Netflix’s newest series, Hemlock Grove
Netflix has released its newest original series entitled Hemlock Grove which is a supernatural thriller series directed by Eli Roth (Hostel, The Last Exorcism).
Hemlock Grove is based on the novel of the same name by Brian McGreevy. It stars Famke Janssen (X-Men, Taken), Dougray Scott (Mission Impossible II), Landon Liboiron (Terra Nova) and Bill Skarsgard. “In the shadows of a rusted Pennsylvania steel town, the mangled body of a teenage girl is discovered. As they hunt for a monster among them, rumors mount and many of the eccentric residents become suspects, from the newly arrived gypsy family to the wealthy Godfrey clan. In the twisted world of Hemlock Grove, everyone hides a dark secret.”
Hemlock Grove marks the third original series Netflix has released, the other two being Lilyhammer and House of Cards, and while House of Cards was widely popular, the shift into a supernatural thriller series is quite a change.
While it’s far to early to tell if this show will be a hit or a dud, critics are already slamming it saying it’s far too “Twilight-esque”. The convenient thing about Netflix’s shows is that all the episodes are released at once, this allows you to know relatively quickly whether or not you’re going to like (or finish) the show, rather than having to be a few weeks invested before you decide to stop. Watch the trailer below to get a feel for the style and to decide whether it’s a show you think is worth watching.
