Entertainer Quickie: Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith separation rumor goes viral and Jennifer Garner Expecting

The main function of the game “telephone” is to discredit the rumor mills that are responsible for morphing a piece of information into an out of this world farce.  To verify what was said you would have to go straight to the original source.

Yesterday morning, all the major entertainment blogging sites and publications were headlining this:  Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith Separate.  They all had very similar headlines, some even reading straight out of the copy that In-Touch Weekly had sent out.

The news pretty soon went viral.  In Touch Weekly’s three sentences that announced the celebrity couple has split spread like wild-fire and pretty soon it has become just another Hollywood truth.  In a world where a Tweet can become solid fact by the time it is retweeted, not even a statement straight out of the mouths of an insider can hush the rumors.  Pinkett-Smith’s rep, Karynne Tencer, said this to TMZ: “What? In Touch said that?  I know nothing about this…Lord.  I’m going back to bed.”

Apparently Pinkett-Smith’s rep has not been losing sleep over this even though rumors of the Hollywood couple’s split have kept most of the public buzzing.

Smith and Pinkett have put out a statement denying the rumors, saying, “Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumors circulating about our relationship are completely false.  We are still together, and our marriage is intact.”

Trey, Will’s son from a previous marriage even goes on to deny the story via Twitter earlier in the day: “Will and Jada getting a DIVORCE…NOT TRUE AT ALL!! RETWEET!

Smith, 42, and Pinkett, 39, married on New Year’s Eve in 1997 at the Cloisters Mansion in Baltimore, MD., Pinkett’s hometown.  They went on to raise two children together – Willow and Jaden – as well as Trey Smith.  They always seemed like a pretty solid, happy couple, The Washington Post reports.

In other Hollywood news, representatives for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner say the couple is expecting their third child.

A one-sentence statement released Monday announced that the actors are “thrilled” to have another baby on the way.  The couple has two daughters, Violet, 5, and 2-year-old Seraphina Elizabeth Rose Affleck.

Garner rose to fame after starring in the television series “Alias.”  And Affleck won an Oscar for co-writing the screenplay to “Good Will Hunting.”  He recently wrote, directed and starred in the thriller “The Town.”  The actors co-starred in the movie “Pearl Harbor,” where Garner played a smaller role in the movie, and the celebrity couple began dating when they met again on the “Daredevil” set.
