Whitney Houston Family Reality Series
Lifetime network announced the premier date of their new reality series, “The Houstons.” “The Houstons: On Our Own” is an upcoming reality series that focuses on Whitney Houston’s family. It is scheduled to be on air on October 24 at 9PM ET/PT.
“The 14 episode half-hour series will chronicle Houston’s family as they help each other cope with the loss of Whitney, focusing especially on Bobbi — the 19-year-old daughter of Whitney and her former husband Bobby Brown and the only heir to her mother’s estate who was known for breaking down emotionally and physically after Whitney’s death.” (Reality TV World).
Last February the Pop singer, 48, had drowned in her bathtub only two days after her last performance on stage with Kelly Price. The coroner, after examining the singer’s body, stated the singer’s death was contributed by “effects of atherosclerotic heart disease and cocaine use.” A toxicology examination revealed the singer had additional drugs in her system: Flexiril, Marijuana, Xanax, and Benadryl. After all the results were in, surrounding the incident, the police determined that her death was an accident.
The family hosted a four-hour memorial service at the New Hope Baptist Church in New Jersey. Those who performed for the service include Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, R. Kelly, CeCe Winans, and Kim Burnell. Many stars came to the service to share their grief and some discussed how they knew her, such as Tyler Perry, Kevin Costner, Clive Davis, and even her security guard, Ray Watson.
The series will include other family members such as Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager, and Pat’s daughter Rayah. The family’s friend Nick Gordon will be seen in the show with the family to help them in their mourning of Whitney.
Lifetime executive Rob Sharenow stated, “In this series, the multi-generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love and grow.”
The show will also include interviews with the Pop Star, family photos, and some of the family’s private home videos of Whitney.
