UC San Diego released their Fall 2012 admissions statistics today, and once again have admitted a record number of students with more impressive scores than ever, proving that UC San Diego competes with the top UC schools in California as well as the best schools in the nation.

The San Diego school reports that the number of admitted students is up 4,715, which represents a 25.9 percent increase from last year. The new freshmen were selected from a record 60,800 applications. Staggering statistics of SAT scores and GPAs reflect that this San Diego school competes with the best universities in the nation.

Mae Brown, assistant vice chancellor for Admissions and Enrollment Services says, “We’re thrilled UC San Diego continues to attract many highly qualified and dynamic students. Our students have made tremendous contributions to this campus, helping to establish UC San Diego as a world-renowned, academic powerhouse.”

More than 40 percent of the newly admitted UC San Diego freshmen are from Southern California. Which means this coming September, thousands of out-of-towners will fall in love with the city we all have come to call home.

Are you curious about what the bright young minds are choosing as their future career paths? Well, it is reported that the most popular majors chosen are biology, economics, computer science and engineering, chemistry, and mechanical and aerospace engineering.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
