Rihanna Finally Speaking Out Causes Other Celebrities To Do The Same

Rihanna has finally spoken out about the assault by Chris Brown. Her interview with Diane Sawyer was her first television interview since the exposure of abuse. In the interview Rihanna tells all about what happened that night of the assault.

Rihanna explains how the fight started as confrontation about a text message from another girl on Brown’s cell phone.  Instead of reacting normally Brown went on a rampage as Rihanna just sat there and took the abuse.  Rihanna tells Sawyer that “it was a wake-up call for me… big time… I will say that to any young girl who is going through domestic violence, don’t react off of love… F love… Come out of the situation and look at it in the third person and for what it really is.”

A holding back tears, Rihanna admitted to being completely mortified of what occurred between her and ex boyfriend Brown. Her embarrassment was worsened by the media as the story exploded around the globe. “There are a lot of women who experienced what I did, but not in the public… It’s something that nobody wants anybody to know.” She also elucidated that she is most embarrassed that Brown was “the type of person she fell in love with.”

Abuse is such as risqué topic that it is almost never mentioned, but recently since the Rihanna and Brown scandal has emerged, several other celebrities have come out to talk about their abusive relationships.

Mariah Carey spoke on Larry King Live two nights prior to Rihanna speaking to 20/20. Carey reveals that she was in an emotionally and physically abusive relationship with ex hubby Tommy Mottola. She says she can completely relate to Rihanna’s situation and the pain she is suffering.

Marry Murphy, a judge for “So You Think You Can Dance,” recently spoke out on US Weekly stating that she suffered over 9 years of abuse from her ex-husband.  Murphy alleges her unnamed ex-husband would physically abuse her and then command sex.

Halle Berry, Tina Turner and Madonna have also been involved in abusive relationships.

Rihanna is speaking out now in the hopes that other women won’t make that same mistake she did by staying in an abusive relationship. She explains that “when I realized that my selfish decision for love could result in some young girl getting killed, I could not be easy with that part. I couldn’t be held responsible for going back.”

After a nine-month break from singing, Rihanna is back on the music boat with a new hit album called “Rated R”.  Look for it in stores November 23, 2009.
