Mayor Sanders urges San Diegans to support Padres
The San Diego Padres are 1/2 a game out of first place in their division, behind the San Francisco Giants. As they head into their last home-stand game of the season, they need local support. The games begin Friday against Cincinnati.
In a press conferee yesterday Mayor Jerry Sanders said, “when you think about it, the 2010 San Diego Padres are a perfect embodiment of this city’s character. They’re tough. They relish the role of underdog. They play the game with passion and creativity.”
The mayor urges all San Diegans to “show off their civic pride and do what they can to support the Padres.”
How can you show support? It should be pretty obvious, but wear Padres colors, fly a team banner, wear a jersey, and the list goes on. One of the best ways to take advantage of the play-off spirit and support our local team is by heading down to Petco Park to enjoy a game. If you’ve always wanted to go to a game (or if you go often) there’s no better time that now. The atmosphere is exciting and everyone is “root, root, rooting for the home team.”
One additional way to support the Pads is by sporting a Padres plackard. The Padres have provided the city with 10,000 Padres placards that the city will distribute at libraries and recreation centers during. They’ll be available starting on Thursday, 9/23.
“This is about more than just baseball,” says Sanders. “This is about pride in our great city. By supporting this amazing Padres team, we’ll be making an important statement about the healthy spirit of America’s Finest City.”
