NCAA Basketball March Madness at San Diego’s favorite sports bars
Break out the brackets and the giant foam hands because NCAA March Madness is in full effect. Aside from taking your pick for the college teams to win (ahem… Aztecs) the next and all-important question is: where can I go to get good and liquored up. The following are a few of the hottest places you can go to eat, drink, and be merry whilst enjoying all the nonstop NCAA Basketball action. Raise a toast to celebrate your favorite college team, or drink your sorrows away for losing the office pool, and let the March Madness in San Diego begin.
Bub’s @ The Ballpark
Located at East Village between 7th and 8th avenue, Bub’s @ The Ballpark has come to be a favorite spot to catch a game, boasting architecture that marries both a love for sports with the history of Downtown San Diego. With 50” plasma screens set up throughout the bar, you won’t miss a beat with all the March Madness festivities. For Bub’s March Mayhem, they offer “MAD” food and drink specials, including $4 pints and $14 dollar pitchers of their March Beer of the Month: Smithwick’s Irish Ale. Saturday and Sunday mornings also feature their Bloody Mary and Mimosa bars. If you’re lucky enough, Bub’s @ the Ballpark is throwing a special raffle on Friday, March 16, to kick off their March Mayhem. One lucky winner can win table reservations at Petco Park’s Best Seat in the House, opening day of the Padres season.
Kristy’s MVP Sports Bar and Grill
Another San Diego fan favorite is Kristy’s MVP Sports Bar and Grill. Brick-oven pizzas, juicy burgers, and buffalo wings deemed “epic” are some of the tasty treats you’ll find at its convenient central location by the Sports Arena. Kristy’s MVP is fully furnished with 30 big screen HDTV’s to accommodate every booth in the house, and is fully hooked up to all the major sports packages. Aside from the mouthwatering menu, it’s the atmosphere that makes Kristy’s MVP so great. No matter which college team you’re rooting for, Kristy’s will make sure you feel right at home.
The Local
Decked out with surfboards and flat screens across the bar, this local watering hole has become a hot spot downtown. The vibrant atmosphere makes this the perfect place to catch up on the latest basketball scores, not to mention the $3 wells and $2 appetizers offered every Friday, and the $6 beer and a shot Mustache Ride special on Saturdays. Known for their zesty Lobster Tacos, the Local offers a wonderful menu to keep your taste buds satisfied during the game, including Big Ass Nachos, Roasted Garden Quesadilla, and BIG ½ Pound Burgers.
