Memorial Day activities to remember

Memorial Day is coming up at the end of this month (May 27th) and many have the day off to celebrate. But what events are happening that weekend? Here’s a list of just some of the many fun ways to spend Memorial Day in San Diego this year.

KiFM Jazz Festival, May 24-27, 2013 | 12:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. With the musician’s stages set up at 5th and G in the Gaslamp, and more than 25 of the clubs and restaurants joining in the celebration, this is one of the premiere jazz events of the year. It is a ticketed event, 21 and up only.

The 2013 lineup: On Friday, May 24th, Charlie Wilson, Kem, and Dominic Amato. On Saturday, May 25th, Brian Culbertson; Ledisi; Jonathan Butler, Sheila E. & Elan Trotman; Eric Darius & Larry Braggs; Kim Waters & Phil Perry; and DW3. On Sunday, May 26, Jeffrey Osborne & Euge Groove; Brian Mcknight; Will Downing; Norman Brown, Kirk Whalum & Rick Braun; Jessy J; Jonathan Fritzen & Michael Lington; and Nick Colionne.

Memorial Day Weekend Celebration Cruises,  May 25-27, 2013, Boarding at  10:30 a.m., Cruise: 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Hornblower Cruises offers a full weekend of fun Memorial Day BBQ & Beer Cruises. Plus, sunset dinner and champagne brunch cruises available.

San Diego Memorial Day BBQ Bash on Monday May 27, 2013 leaves from 990 North Harbor Drive, San Diego, CA; Boarding time: 12:30 PM; Cruising: 1:00-3:00 PM; Price: $46.50 per adult,   $28.50 Child (4-12 years); Taxes & service charges are additional.

American Freedom Foundation Festival. Tickets went on sale, Friday, April 5 at 10am for the 4th annual American Freedom Festival San Diego presented by SKYDEX.  The event will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. aboard the historic USS MIDWAY MUSEUM and will feature the Creedence Clearwater Revisited show.  This annual concert will celebrate our Veterans and men and women of America’s armed forces at the Party of the Year while benefiting Veterans Village of San Diego, San Diego Armed Services YMCA, ReBoot San Diego and Home Aid San Diego

Ticket Information: Tickets for the American Freedom Festival San Diego aboard the USS Midway Museum on Saturday, May 25 at 7:30pm are $69.50, $54.50 and $39.50 (plus applicable service charges) and go on sale Friday, April 5 at 10:00 am.  Tickets will be available through www.midway.org/freedom and www.americanfreedomfoundation.org
