El Sol de Mexico – Luis Miguel is OK after hospitalization
Luis Miguel was reportedly hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on April 19, 2010, due to a bacterial infection caused from liposuction, according to Perez Hilton. Luis Miguel was hospitalized for several days, and his brother Alejandro Basteri stayed by his side.
Luckily, Miguel was released from Cedars-Sinai over the weekend just in time to celebrate his 40th birthday. Representative of Warner Latin Music label gave no information about Miguel’s hospitalization, but friend and actress Sofia Vergara says that he is now OK.
Luis Miguel, birth name Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, is a Mexican singer best known for his talented vocals in pop music, bolero, mariachi, and romantic ballads. Since the 1980s, Miguel has won 4 Latin Grammy Awards and 5 Grammy awards, and his fans call him “El Sol de Mexico,” the sun of Mexico.
Luis Miguel is son of Spanish singer Luisito Rey and Italian actress Marcela Basteri. Growing up, Miguel’s father encouraged him to critically analyze Elvis Presley, having his son meticulously watch every movie, live concert, and recorded performance of the King of Rock n’ Roll. Miguel’s father also became his manager, and he sadly passed away in 1992.
Miguel’s first album, Un Sol, was released in 1981 when he was only 11 years old. By the age of 13, Miguel was touring all over Latin American countries including Columbia, Venezuela, Chile, and Argentina. In 1985, Miguel participated in the Sanremo Music Festival and took home the second place award for his song “Noi Ragazzi Di Oggi.” Within the same year, he also won the “Antorcha de Plata” Award in the Viña del Mar Music Festival for his duet single “Me Gustas Tal Como Eres” with Sheena Easton.
In 1988, Luis Miguel released his second album Busca Una Mujer with the hit single “La Incondicional” that was a top-10 hit throughout Latin America in 1989. The popularity of his single was due in part to its shocking music video in which Miguel presented himself sans signature long hair that he had all throughout his career. This monumental haircut marked his transition from being a child star to being an adult superstar. Check out the famous music video below.
Best wishes to Luis Miguel and his health!
