‘Last Man Standing’ Might Revive

By  |

Rumor has it ‘Last Man Standing’ might come back to your home television. However, if this does actually happen, the show will air on CMT, rather than its former home on ABC. Though this might be a long shot for CMT and the rumors are fresh, we are hoping for a revival of the hit comedy tv show.

After 6 seasons of the Tim Allen comedy, ‘Last Man Standing’ ABC made the surprising decision to cancel the popular show due to thematic issues and monetary costs. ABC discontinued comedy themed shows on Fridays, so it seemed like it was the right decision for the entertainment network. Furthermore, the show’s expenses were unbearable to keep up with because it was produced by 20th Century Fox, which was out of ABC’s means.

‘Last Man Standing’s’ high viewership and strong ratings might outweigh the expensive costs, on the other hand. ‘Last Man Standing’ had a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 and over 8.3 million viewers. In fact, Hollywood reporter discussed with 20th Century Fox Television’s Howard Kurtzman about the cancellation of the show. Kurtzman said, “If there’s a way to bring it back, we will explore those opportunities.”

CMT recently took over the show, ‘Nashville,’ from ABC and this show is now one of the most watched shows in their network. Additionally, CMT has been pushing for new originally scripted shows, like ‘Still the King.’ Therefore, it seems as though the adoption of ‘Last Man Standing’ would be the best move for the network. Potentially, the adoption of ‘Last Man Standing’ would even bring them to the top of the ratings.

We have our fingers crossed that the Viacom-owned network will pick up the conservative comedy, starring Tim Allen. Not only have we missed this classic show, but we also believe this would be the most beneficial move for CMT in the long run.

If you haven’t seen ‘Last Man Standing’ yet, it is available on Netflix to stream.
