Kendall and Kylie Jenner T-Shirt Catastrophe
Kendall and Kylie Jenner recently added vintage t-shirts to their clothing line, featuring some of the greatest and most talented musical icons. However, the two high-profile celebrities didn’t receive the right to produce these shirts and never asked for consent from these artists.
Some of the cultural icons that were featured in the t-shirts included legendary artists and musical groups like The Doors, Metallica, Tupac, Ozzy Osbourne and Pink Floyd. None of these cultural icons were warned of the production of these shirts by the reality tv stars Kendall and Kylie.
The Doors immediately wrote a cease and desist letter to the Jenner’s regarding a t-shirt that features Jim Morrison covered by a Kendall selfie.
The letter stated, “The superimposing of a selfie of Kendall Jenner over the iconic ‘Lion’ portrait of the late Jim Morrison is offensive and remarkable for its failure to recognize the rights of the estate of Mr. Morrison to control the use of his likeness.”
Additionally, Biggie Small’s Mother wrote a cease and desist letter to the Jenner’s regarding the same issue.
Biggie Small’s estate said, “The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me. I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my Son Christopher to sell a t-shirt.”
The Jenner’s issued an immediate apology to the public and artists.
They said, “These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists. We are huge fans of their music and it was not our intention to disrespect these cultural icons in anyway.”
Though the Jenner’s pulled the shirts, they clearly have some credibility to gain before proceeding with the production of their business.
