Entertainer Quickie: The Academy Awards, mtvU’s Awards and Country Music Awards Update!

The Academy Awards
The 83rd annual Oscar Nominations were announced last week, recognizing an array of talented actors, directors and movies of the past year. Most notably and frequently honored are movies like The King’s Speech, The Kids are All Right, The Fighter and Black Swan, all up for the Best Picture award of 2011.
Hosting this year is Anne Hathaway, the newest addition to the Batman movie conglomerate as Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises to be released next year and James Franco, up for Actor in a Leading Role for his gripping performance in 127 Hours.
The Oscars will air on Sunday, February 27th.
mtvU Woodie Awards
The ‘Woodie Awards’ by college network mtvU is proud to announce their latest set of honored music stars.
The Black Keys, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa, B.o.B and Mumford & Sons are just a few of the music industry’s big hitters who have just been announced as nominees for the 2011 Woodie Awards. “We are excited to be nominated for the ‘Woodie Awards’” says Black Keys drummer Patrick, “and are super stoked that MTV has been so supportive of our videos,” In an interview with mtv.com this month.
The Woodie’s will air live on MTV, mtvU and MTV2 from Austin, Texas on March 16th at midnight.
Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM)
The 46th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards announced their 2011 nominations yesterday on CBS’ Early Show broadcast. It will be hosted by Blake Shelton and country star Reba McEntire. Miranda Lambert is up for seven awards, including top-shelf nominations like Entertainer of the Year, Top Female Vocalist of the Year, and Song of the Year for, “The House That Built Me.” Other country vocalists who have received top nods from the ACM are Keith Urban, Taylor Swift and Brad Paisley.

Fans can vote for their favorites in the categories Top New Artist and Entertainer of the Year on voteACM.com starting March 11. The show will air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 3rd at 8:00 PM on the CBS Network.
