Clooneys to Open New Schools For Refugees
George and Amal Clooney have planned to open seven public schools for Syrian refugee children. Together, the Clooney Foundation For Justice and UNICEF will partner in order to stay devoted to those in need.
George and Amal’s 2 million dollars worth of donations support our Syrian youth from becoming a lost generation.
“Thousands of young Syrian refugees are at risk – the risk of never being a productive part of society. Formal education can help change that. That’s our goal with this initiative,” the couple selflessly said in a joint statement. “We don’t want to lose an entire generation because they had the bad luck of being born in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
A spokesman for UNICEF commended the Clooney’s donation. UNICEF spokesman even said that this donation could be the “the future of the entire region.” The collaboration of The Clooney Foundation and UNICEF will provide fully equipped education to 3,000 refugee students who would otherwise never have the opportunity to go to school or are currently out of school.
Amal, 39, is a human rights lawyer and is originally from Lebanon. Her family ran from war and was accepted by a European country when violence heightened. Together Clooney and Amal have devoted much of their wealth to supporting those who might have the same chance she had and the resources we take advantage of.
“I hope that, as you say, you will be able to go back to a safe and free Syria,” Amal said as she reflected on her experience.
Though Amal and George just gave birth to twins, it hasn’t stopped them from taking the time to give back and focusing on bettering education services to Syrian refugees. We applaud UNICEF and the Clooney Foundation For Justice for their efforts to make our world a better place.
