Chad Ochocinco in good spirits after release from Patriots

The New England Patriots released wide receiver Chad Ochocinco Thursday, June 7th. The often boisterous player tweeted the news:

The 34 year old football star was acquired by the Patriots in a trade with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2011. He played in 15 games with three starts in the regular season last year and finished with 15 receptions for 276 yards and one touchdown. He played in two of the three 2011 postseason games and caught one pass for 21 yards in the Super Bowl XLVI loss to the New York Giants.

Despite being released from the Patriots, Ochocinco appears to be in good spirits, at least from Twitter. Some of his recent posts include:

A six time Pro Bowl receiver (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009), he has played in 166 NFL games with 135 starts and has registered 766 receptions for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns. He became the first player in NFL history to lead his conference in receiving yards in four straight seasons.

Ochocinco has become more well known for his off-field antics than his on-field talents recently. Originally Chad Johnson, the name change in tribute to his uniform number is just the beginning. He regularly sent gifts to opposing teams and had his fans help him come up with the now notorious end-zone dances. A personal favorite — giving the football CPR on the field.

Many also know Ochocinco from “Dancing with the Stars.”

Reports from his manager say he’s weighing his options and is “in the process of gauging interest from potential teams.”
