Batman: Lighting in LA for Adam West and Jaden Smith’s Obsession
Last week, beloved Batman star Adam West died on June 9, 2017 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 88. Playing the critical role of the Dark Knight in the classic 1960s series, West was always in a mysterious black cape bringing smiles to his audience’s faces. In order to honor West’s legacy as Batman, the city of Los Angeles is uniquely honoring him.
On Thursday, the city of LA is holding a lighting on the skyline with the infamous bat-signal, which originated in the DC Comic Strip as a sign that the heroic Batman was needed. LA is welcoming the public to this event and it will start at 9 p.m. sharp at City Hall (200 N. Spring St., Los Angeles, CA 90012). Eric Garcetti and L.A. Police Department Chief Charlie Beck plan to do the honors of lighting the iconic signal for all of the people of LA to remember West’s effect on popular culture.
On a similar but unrelated note, Jaden Smith’s obsession with Batman skyrocketed. If you didn’t already know, Smith wore his batman costume to his high school prom. Additionally, he wore the same outfit to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding back in May 2014. Smith hasn’t outgrown the obsession and just released a new track called, “Batman,” with a music video. In the video, he stars as Bruce Wayne, wearing a similar Batman costume and moseying around LA in his Bat-Mobile. This was clearly a dream come true for Smith.
We don’t blame Smith for obsessing over the DC comic book inspired super hero, or the characters in the series and movies. In fact, some of the greatest actors came from Batman, such as Adam West, and we will remember him until the end of time.
Make sure to head to the lighting tonight, since it’s a public event, if haven’t already made plans to honor the cherished actor we will dearly miss.
