The first of the Age of Empires series, the original Age of Empires in 1997 and 1999’s Age of Empires 2: The Age of Kings were created by the now disused Ensemble Studios. Now, Relic Entertainment holds the reigns for Age of Empires 4. Relic has a history of making some of the most popular real-time strategy names like, Homeworld, Company of Heroes, and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.
Relic expressed their excitement for the upcoming game to come out in a statement of their announcement.
“We can’t wait to tap into our strengths as a studio to fuse historical context with deep strategic gameplay, and to bring this franchise back to the forefront of gaming and into the hands of its beloved community,” Relic said, “We look forward to sharing with you more details in the months to come. For now, just know we are beyond excited to be working on the next entry into the legendary franchise.”
In the trailer, it is clear that the game will take place from Ancient Rome to the American Revolution and take concepts from each era. In the video, there are many battles to be fought and thought provoking concepts from the various historical contexts to be had.
In the background of the video a narrator said, “Exploration, discovery, and conquest will stand the test of time. Together, we will battle through history. Now, a new age is upon us.”
Age of Empires 4 will officially be released this October 19 and will exclusively be available on the Windows Store in Windows 10.
