War for Planet of the Apes
‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ came out this weekend and didn’t disappoint considering it won the box office with an estimated $56.5 million in it’s first weekend of release. Even though this seems like a success, the newest ‘Planet of the Apes’ did not reach it’s goal or come close to the triumph of the previous Apes movies. Nevertheless, the newest science fiction Apes movie directed by Matt Reeves is worth seeing.
Spoiler Alert: do not read the rest of this article if you haven’t seen the newest installment of ‘War for the Planet of the Apes.’
‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ followed ape leader Caesar (Andy Serkis) as he attempted to avenge his fellow apes after a horrific battle where their forces were utterly destroyed. The battle was against the evil Woody Harrelson’s Colonel, who was the leader of the ape’s rivals.
Unfortunately, the end for Caesar came as he died in this movie, and this was the most significant part of the entire film. Though it is usually a challenging move for a director to kill off the lead character, this seemed like the natural move to make for the newest Apes film and made sense. Reeves admitted that there was some fear about ending the lovable and heroic character, but the executive producers backed his decision with full hearts.
In the past Apes movies, it seems as though the special effects have overpowered the actor’s roles and actual story. However, this particular film took a turn for the better and told an endearing story much more powerful than the past Apes films. We certainly recommend that you go see this action-packed sci-fi movie at a theater near you. Check out movie times here and go see ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ whenever you can because you won’t regret it.
