WOOFSTOCK: A festival for dogs and people this Saturday
San Diegans, humans and hounds alike, mark your calendars for the sixth annual WOOFSTOCK: A Festival for Dogs and People—San Diego County’s premiere dog festival!
Canine Companions for Independence will be hosting this special event on Saturday, April 10, 2010 from 10:00AM to 3:00PM at the corner of Park Boulevard and Presidents Way in San Diego’s Balboa Park. This ‘60’s themed festival welcomes the public and all well-behaved, leashed dogs. Admission is only $5 and plenty of free parking will be available.
This fun filled day kicks off with the Peace, Love & Walk ‘N Roll dog walk at 9:00AM. The walk ventures through beautiful Balboa Park and is approximately 1.3 miles long. Walkers will have the opportunity to raise funds for Canine Companions and the chance to win exciting prizes throughout the day. The Peace, Love & Walk ‘N Roll registration fee includes the official WOOFSTOCK tie-dye t-shirt, free Festival admission after the walk, and a sWAG bag filled with great surprises. The WOOFSTOCK Festival begins at 10:00AM with plenty of fun activities for the whole family, including your dog! Participants
can compete in contests for Grooviest Costume, Best Trick, Longest Tail, and Biggest and Smallest Paws. Enjoy the Ballistic Racers Flyball Team and even try your own pet on the course. Watch demonstrations by a wide variety of amazing canines—assistance dogs, search and rescue dogs, Disc Dogs, and more. There will also be plenty of games and activities at the Children’s Fun Zone and the K9 Playground. WOOFSTOCK also offers delicious refreshments, dozens of vendor booths to shop at and a unique silent auction.
All proceeds from WOOFSTOCK will benefit Canine Companions for Independence, a nonprofit organization that provides highly trained assistance dogs to children and adults with disabilities, completely free of charge. Canine Companions was established in 1975 and has five regional training centers across the country, including one here in San Diego county’s Oceanside. Canine Companions is recognized worldwide for the excellence of its dogs, and the quality and longevity of the matches it makes between dogs and people.
