This Weekend in San Diego: Whale Watching, Hockey, Cornhole and more!

By  |

‘Tis the Season to get out of the house and enjoy some time with friends and family. While we’re in for some winter weather on Friday, skies should clear up for a chilly weekend full of fun events. By chilly, I mean temperatures around 60s during the day. Watch out for that polar vortex here in California! (jk).

While may people will hit the mall to finish up that holiday shopping, we think you should procrastinate a little more and try out some of these great San Diego events.

San Diego Gulls vs Stockton Heat

Time: 7pm

Nothing says winter time like time at an ice rink. If you’re like me and lack coordination to skate yourself, a hokey game is a great alternative. The San Diego Gulls are playing the Stockton Heat at the Valley View Casino Center. Get tickets today.

Little Italy Mercato

Location: Cedar between Kettner and Front
Time: 8am – 2pm

The Little Italy Mercato is a farmers market that runs every Saturday, rain or shine. Grab some fresh produce and explore local artisans with fresh eggs and poultry, meat, fish, flowers, and goods. Or, my favorite, stop in for a snack. Vendors serve everything from crepes and paninis to smoothies. This time of year Little Italy is decked out in holiday cheer, so it’s a great place to take out of town guests as well.

Whale Watching

Location: Harbor area on Flagship Cruises or Hornblower

The whale watching season is upon us! Starting mid-December, head out on one of the Flagship Cruise or Hornblower boats to tour the bay and spot one of mother natures most majestic animals. Flagship cruises are educational and are guided by Birch Aquarium experts. They even have a high-speed whale watching tour on their Patriot Jet Boat. Hornblower’s whale watching cruise is narrated by expert captains and volunteer naturalists from the San Diego Natural History Museum. They offer two cruises daily.

San Diego resident for over 10 years, I now call this beautiful city home. Originally from the Bay Area, I'm a California girl at heart. I love the outdoors, fitness, food, and a good craft beer (from San Diego of course).
