The Black Moon on Friday night and what it means for all of us
The last day of September will bring a rare lunar event, the black moon. This spectacle is only occurring in the Western Hemisphere and hasn’t happened in over two years. While a blue moon is the second full moon of the month, the black moon marks the second new moon in the month.
Although this could be a cool event to witness, the black moon will be turning the sky back and will be virtually invisible. The part of the moon that will be illuminated will end up facing away from the earth.
There are many superstitions about the black moon and many are fearing the worst with its arrival on Friday night. One theorist states that the black moon signals the end of the world and the end of all life on earth, sort of like an apocalypse. The theory doesn’t provide details about exactly how we are all going to die and what happens after that, so, I guess all we can do is wait.
There are plenty of sayings in the bible that hint at our doom with the arrival of the black moon, but there are also superstitions about witchcraft with this particular moon. Many say that the black moon brings a kind of energy that will enhance witchcraft and spells. Others say all witchcraft needs to be ceased on the night of the black moon. Either way, maybe it is best to stay inside and avoid any witchcraft Friday night.
All superstitions and prophecies aside, scientists say that there will be nothing to fear on this eerie night, and that it is simply an astronomical phenomenon.
This peculiar black moon has perfect timing in welcoming the spooky month of October. For those on the other side of the world who are missing out, don’t worry, the Eastern Hemisphere’s black moon is set to fall on Halloween. Whether that is a good or bad thing, we will let you decide.
Make sure you pay particular attention to the sky because the black moon is set to happen 8:11 p.m. EDT on Friday, September 30th. If the night seems a little darker and stranger than usual, well, you know why.
