Summer Activities in San Diego
Summer is almost here and it’s the best time of year to be a San Diegan. San Diego is known for its summers: we have world renowned beaches, easy access to any summer sport you can think of, tons of nearby campsites, and every day there is a different event (and some of them are even free!) Whether you like a good concert, a relaxing day on the sand, pool parties, or tasty food, San Diego offers all of that and more. Here’s just a few ideas for you to consider while planning your summer in America’s Finest City:
Check out a free concert. There’s a ton to choose from throughout the summer and these free shows are happening all over San Diego. Balboa Park’s annual Twilight in the Park Summer Concerts offers a free concert series under the stars on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from June 20- August 31. Twilight concerts feature a mix of musical performances, including military bands, Dixieland jazz, big band swing and Latin salsa.
For over a decade, North Park’s Bird Rock Summer Concerts have drawn hundreds of people to the beautiful Bird Park setting for picnics, dancing, and enjoying the music of local talent. Concerts begin on July 1. every other Saturday. All concerts are from 5:30- 7:30

Try your hand at a quintessential summer sport. See our article on local surf schools and learn to surf from some of the best. Join a VAVI league and make friends while staying active. Upcoming leagues include kickball, soccer, beach volleyball, and more. Summer means that it’s officially “running season”. Running a race is a great way to stay in shape and the courses allow participants to see San Diego from a unique perspective since streets are shut down to make a path for participants. Camping is a fun way to enjoy the warm weather. There’s nothing better than spending the day under the sun and the night under the stars with a group of friends. Check out these local campsites and enjoy the great outdoors:

Summer movies in the park are a great way to enjoy some family friendly fun and warm summer nights. The movie schedule includes titles like Moana, The Sandlot, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
