By  |

With the warm weather and clear skies that have been taunting San Diegans with thoughts of Summer or daydreams of a vacation at some exotic beach there is a bug going around to travel and take a vacation somewhere.  A place that’s beautiful and warm, with sandy beaches and fun things to do.  A place that has palm trees and landscaping as picturesque as a postcard.

Before you start googling islands off the coast of France or have your heart sink at airfare prices, look around.  If you live in San Diego, then you live in a place with sandy beaches and plenty to do.  You live somewhere that people vacation.  Why not take advantage of it?

The idea of a “stay-cation” is to take full advantage of America’s Finest City.  You may live here and work here, but that doesn’t mean that a local can’t take advantage of the many first-class hotels and resorts in the area for some time off and a vacation that has a huge reduction in travel cost.  Here are a few suggestions for those willing to venture out and stay in town for their vacation.

La Costa Resort and Spa

Located in the foothills of Carlsbad the La Costa Resort and Spa is near the ocean and other attractions like Legoland.  More impressive than location is that the resort was recently named the #1 wellness spa in the nation by Spa Magazine they host a variety of spa treatments, golf opportunities, and family fun things to do.  Even a local would enjoy a message or spa treatment at this highly praised resort and those who favor a day on the green playing golf, or on the court playing tennis would be equally thrilled with the facilities there.  It’s also a place that has been visited by celebrities and athletes alike.

Paradise Point

Another San Diego resort that is set up in an ideal stay-cation location is Paradise Point.  It sits on a private, 44-acre island viewing Mission Bay. Both locals and non-locals rave about its bungalow style suites and calm, relaxing atmosphere.  There are plenty of activities to partake in that will give you the full “island experience” right in San Diego.  Visitors can learn how to sail, kayak, or jet ski in the marina and there are even fire pits located outside of the rooms to roast s’mores.  There are also plenty of pools that include a waterfall pool, an adult lagoon, and main pool perfect for families who want room to splash and play.  The best part about Paradise Point? They appear on Groupon every now and then with an amazing deal that could help make a vacation even less expensive.

Coronado Island Marriott Resort and Spa

Located on Coronado Island the Marriott Resort and Spa features a spa, three heated pools, and a tennis court.  It also boasts of its convenient  location that feature exceptional views of downtown across the water and many connections to the San Diego Bay Boardwalk.  It would be an ideal place to go and appreciate the beauty of the city that locals work and play in.  With many areas to relax and take in the sights visitors feel as though they have arrived in a truly special city.

Hotel Del Coronado

An icon of San Diego the Hotel Del Coronado features rustic red turrets “piercing the taut horizontal lines of an azure California skyline.” It offers a combination of luxury and beachfront lifestyle.  The Hotel Del is a great destination for anyone.  Families looking for a memorable vacation for the little ones, couples looking for a getaway, and it’s all available right in San Diego.  The 124 year old Victorian building is home to award winning cuisine and ample opportunities for fun in the sun.  Visitors can take surfing lessons, shop, and enjoy the spa that has ocean inspired massages, facials, body wraps, scrubs, and more.  With all these options locals can come relax and experience a piece of San Diego history.
