Meet World Renowned San Diego Artist Concetta Antico

By  |

Concetta Antico is a world-renowned oil painter who has been pursuing her passion for art for over 20 years. Growing up in Australia, she recounts her passion for art as being some of her earliest memories. Cezanne, van Gogh, and Monet are listed as some of her inspirations from a young age. Growing up, Concetta won numerous awards at school, and her mother predicted she would become a famous artist. When Concetta turned 12, her mother passed away, but she carried her passion for art with her, eventually immigrating to Los Angeles.

Concetta is well-known for being a tetrachromat, which means she can see 100 million colors, over 100 times the amount someone with normal vision could. Known as The Color Queen, her gift was discovered by Dr. Jay Neitz, who told her her gift of tetrachromacy is ultra-rare, with only 2-3 percent of the world’s population having the same ability. Concetta has used this incredible gift and her passion for art to create some of the most organic, dynamic oil paintings that capture color like no other. She has over 1,000 original pieces of art in private and corporate collections around the world. Concetta says that self expression is one of the most important human expressions, and hopes for it be accessible to all.

Due to her gift, Concetta is capable of noticing subtle color variations and differentiations in the world around her, inspiring her to take to painting in order to express herself. She says, “My natural visual world is breathtaking. The world is so vibrant and stimulating to my eyes, allowing me to paint what I see, what I love the most, and what I live.”

While her gift allows to paint incredibly vibrant creations, she says her gift also has its downfalls. When in places with intense and varied color, she says she feels overwhelmed and feel visually attacked. This includes places like the supermarket, where she becomes stressed, tired, and irritated at the intense visual array of colors.

Recently, Concetta, pictured on the left, partnered with fellow artist Irina Negulescu to showcase their works at The iN Gallery. The partnership between the two master artists served as a celebration of the power of their contributions to the art world. Both artists have historically struggled for recognition on the same level as their male counterparts, but the event was a resounding success in showcasing the incredible talents of the two women.

On the event, Concetta said, “Our new partnership and gallery is due to the fate and the universe bringing us together. We both see vivid beauty and colors in the world that others do not, and bringing these to life in our works of art is our destiny. We look forward to sharing this with the San Diego community and visitors from around the world.”

Currently, Concetta’s next event will be the Sacred Spectra ~ 100 Million Color Continuum. The event is free, and will be taking place at Concetta’s private residence. The event will feature new tetrachromatic masterpieces, live music by Mr. Sky Ladd, and free wine and appetizers. It will take place on April 7, so be sure to RSVP to get your spot.
