Go Green at Mythology – Local All Green and Eco-Friendly Boutique

Strolling the streets of South Park you are likely to stumble upon Mythology, San Diego’s only all green/eco-friendly boutique.  Owner, designer and California native Robert Frederick has beautifully mastered the art of cultivating awareness through innovative design, for a fashion forward and yet greener tomorrow.

Graduating from USD in Fine Arts and continuing on to MIT in New York, Frederick’s internship soon led to an offered position designing the men’s sports collection for Tommy Hilfiger.  A series of events led him back to his roots here in California and needless to say he has been a huge contributor in the process of locally paving the way for the green movement.

His goal is to promote awareness in a way that will both effect and inspire people to become proactive and take steps, no matter how large or small, towards adapting a greener lifestyle.

Mythology houses jewelry from local artists along with beautiful handmade beads from East Africa; the money from which goes directly back to the village of the women who make them, which in turn allows them to self-sustain and successfully support their village.

Paintings and photography from local artists, wallets, purses dyed from natural elements of the earth, high-quality dresses (some of which designed by Robert himself), shirts and jeans are all designed with the fashion savvy in mind. Products are from companies such as Mission Playground, Satori, and Splaff just to name a few. Each company supports the cause 100% through their own mission and unique design.

Last but definitely not least notable are the authentic vintage buckles with nothing post 1985. After encountering the belts designed and made by Robert, none of which are made from real leather but rather a high-grade synthetic suede, I can honestly say, it was

virtually impossible to distinguish the difference.

Even the true leather lovers of Harley Davidson have adapted to them; Richard designs and sells to 27 Harley Davidson stores.

For those who desire a truly ‘couture’ piece, custom designs are available.

Robert Frederick has made and continues to make a bold statement through fashion and design, possessing the ability to be both eco-friendly and earth conscience all while keeping fashion at the forefront.  May we resonate with the concept at the core and marinate in the words of David Orras as he once said, “when we heal the earth, we heal ourselves”.
