Financial Tips & Economic Updates from Financial Advisor Steve Sexton
Steve Sexton, President of the Sexton Advisory Group and host of his very own radio show, “Winning in Life” broadcasted every Sunday morning at 9:00 on KBCQ 1170 AM, recently sat down with Kirsten Mosteller of San Diego Living on Channel 6, for his regular Money Minute segment.
Currently on everyone’s mind, including Mosteller’s, is the ups and downs of the current national and international market. Sexton helps illuminate what he sees as the reasons for the turbulent economy, first by discussing how the American economy only grew 69,000 jobs, when economists suggested 170,000 jobs for the month of May. The result of this lead to lower home sales and ultimately lower spending nationwide.
Internationally, Sexton points out that China’s economy is contracting, while in Europe, Greece and Spain are causing some serious ripples in the economy. Though Spain just received a bailout, since its main bank made a few unwise real estate investments economists are very worried about Greece. Sexton points out that Greece is on the verge of converting back to their original currency, the Drachma, while moving away from austerity measures and the Euro. This move by Greece, according to Sexton, will lead to Greece defaulting on their loans with banks and will eventually cost the international financial community a lot of money to recover.
Sexton’s focus, is how this affects the average investor and what can they do to protect their money. He advises the average investor to ask questions of their financial advisors and become active in their investments. Rather than ‘riding out’ the economy investors should become aware of their fees and how much money they are actually spending and investing, that way investors can see where their money is going and ensure they save the most amount of money.
If you would like more financial advice, consider signing up for one of Steve’s financial workshops. His next workshop will take place in the Mission Valley Courtyard Marriot on June 19th and 21st.
