The Dukan Diet: Is This Really How the French Stay Thin?
You would think we’ve seen, tried, and done it all in the weight loss world. Yet, there’s always another fad diet taking over just before spring rtime. And this time, there are rumors that future Princess Kate Middleton is its VERY unofficial spokes model. The French Dukan Diet is the newest diet craze that’s just about to hit this side of the pond.
Kate Middleton’s mom started the diet in November of last year, and it is reported that Kate is on the Dukan Diet too, just a month before her wedding. But at 5’ 10” and 120 lbs, does the princess really need to lose any weight? Kate’s not the only celeb to try Dukan’s weight-loss method. The diet has helped other celebrities like Jennifer Lopez and Gisele Bundchen lose a ton of baby weight, fast.
Just what exactly is the Dukan Diet? It promotes a high-protein, low-fat and low-carbohydrate calorie intake that lets you eat as much as you want of certain foods. According to their website, your body will go through four phases to reach its “true weight.” First you will attack—with protein products, then you will cruise—eating protein with vegetables for a three day period, third is consolidation—with ‘celebration’ meals that keep you from gaining the weight you just lost, and last is permanent stabilization—for a lifetime of thinness.
The creator of the Dukan Diet is none other than Dr. Pierre Dukan, a French nutrition specialist whose book The Real Reason the French Stay Thin has already sold 3.5 million copies worldwide. It will make its US debut next month and is likely to be this summer’s new ‘get thin quick’ craze for a stealth bikini body.
