Ways to Celebrate the End of Summer
There’s just one short month left of summer, which means there isn’t a lot of time left to take advantage of the events and activities the season has to offer. September 22 is the official last day of summer, and after that it’s onto pumpkin spice and Hocus Pocus. If you live for every drop of sunshine and dream of an endless summer, here’s a few ideas to help you enjoy the last of it:
Every Friday until September 29, catch one of the city’s premier events, the Dinner & A Concert Series. Friday evenings from 6-8pm the center of Downtown El Cajon is transformed into a stage. The audience enjoys a weekly concert and dance hosted by Downtown El Cajon Business Partners, performed on the Prescott Promenade, which is surrounded by a variety of restaurants. Thousands of people from all over San Diego County arrive to see and listen to the many local bands and musicians. This event is family friends and free, and the bands play everything from rock, country, big band to R&B.
There’s nothing that feels as quintessentially summer as sandcastles on the beach. From September 1-4, the US Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition will be held downtown at the Broadway Pier. This family friendly event draws hundreds of thousands each year to see master-class sculptors build beautiful 3-dimensional works of art. Now many of the world’s finest artists will come to create the most amazing sculptures ever.
If you want to take advantage of the hot weather and lounge like royalty, head to the Kimpton Solamar Hotel, located in the heart of the Gaslamp District. The hotel offers daily cabana rentals, and you can play tourist while relaxing in your own city! Perched above the busy city streets, the newly renovated Upper East Bar and rooftop terrace features a beach-luxe lounge with imaginative cocktails and a playful menu. Soak in the last of summer while you enjoy outdoor games, cozy up by the fire pits, and unwind. Amenities include pool access, fresh towels, ice-cold water and other cool summer treats.
If you’re looking for a night out on the town to enjoy downtown San Diego, check out Level 9 Rooftop Bar. Level 9 is located inside Hotel Indigo and features happy hour specials every day of the week. This bar draws your eye to city views that look remarkable from its ninth-floor vantage point. Whether you’re bringing a date or getting your friends together for a night out, Level 9 will definitely impress. Enjoy a good drink and a good view to celebrate the end of another perfect summer in San Diego.
We hope this summer has been a memorable one, and that you enjoy the last few weeks before fall!
