Art classes for family and children during the holidays

By  |

It’s cold outside and let’s face it: your kids aren’t exactly clawing at the front door to play.

That’s why art classes can be a productive use of your kids time when staying indoors for the holidays.

Instead of succumbing to the usual hibernation festivities –watching Christmas carols, video games, etc.- give your children the gift of exercising their creative talents.

Here are some local art shops that offer fun classes for kids during the holiday season.

Pachis

Where: 2820 Roosevelt Road Building 201, Suite 102

When: Monday, Dec 19 to Thursday, Dec 22 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm | Tuesday, Dec 27 to Friday, Dec 30 from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Price: 4-day camp–$320 per child, 8-day camp–$600 per child

What: Pachis lets your child create and participate in drawings, painting, sewing, and media projects just to name a few. Centered in the fun-filled scenary of Liberty Station in Point Loma, Pachis Art Camp incorporates time to spend outdoors to enjoy the activities, too. The best part? There is no prior art experience required, so don’t be reticent, bring your child to this event as soon as possible due to limited space.

What: If you’re on the search for an affordable arts and crafts class to drop your kids off while you shop for holiday supplies, then you may want to take a stop at Michaels in Mission Valley. It starts from ages three on up and all supplies are included—making it a great deal in and of itself.

When: Friday (and recurring throughout December) Dec 23 from 11:00 am – 9:00 pm.

Price: Starts at $5

What: This is a family painting event, which means you’ll have to be present with the children while you’re painting, which is the best way to spend an genuine time at an art studio. In addition, you will save more money when you bring one or more child on studio fees—which can be a max amount of eight dollars for adults.

Lakeshore Learning

Where: 7510 Hazard Center Drive

When: Dec 17 from 11:00 – 3:00 pm

Price: Free

What: This hands-on experience is great for the child to discover their hidden talents in a classroom setting. With an ages three and up tag, the Free Crafts for Kids helps children learn to work with crafters with tracing, assembling, advising and instructing. So their communication skills get an improvement, too. Make sure to bring all specified materials to the workshop, as not all the supplies will be provided.
