7 Weight Loss Myths
In America’s never ending battle of the bulge, there seems to be a new weight loss fad on a weekly basis. It can be safe to say that the ONLY way to lose weight is to consume less calories than you burn in a day. It’s simple — calories in < calories out.
So why is it so hard to lose weight and keep it off? So many people misunderstand their weight loss and subscribe to these myths:
Myth #1. Eating 5 small meals throughout the day will result in weight loss.
The idea behind this myth is sound advice but it doesn’t seem to work in practice. Most people who follow this diet plan eat more in these 5 small meals than they would in 3 regular-sized meals.
Myth #2. There is not a safe way to lose weight quickly.
Certain supplements can help consumers lose up to 1-2 pounds per day. Weightlossguide.com says that HCG hormones are safe, yet research has yet to provide conclusive evidence. In addition, using supplements and drops like this can make it easy to lose weight, but almost impossible to keep off.
Myth #3. Diet pills and supplements don’t work.
There are a number of diet pills that can offer great results. It is recommended that you speak with your doctor before starting any of these pills because there can be risky side effects, especially if you have heart or liver problems.
Myth #4. You don’t need to diet as long as you exercise.
Eating large meals and indulging in unhealthy snacks packs a lot of calories – it is unlikely that you will be able to exercise enough to burn up those calories. For example, you must walk briskly for 2 hours to burn off just 500 calories.
Myth #5. You should avoid stepping on the scale every day.
Weighing yourself everyday can give you a good measure for progress. The issue comes, however, when you find yourself weighing yourself multiple times a day, after eating, after using the restroom, etc. These habits can lead to eating disorders and can be detrimental over time.
6. All over-the-counter weight loss products are completely safe and natural.
This is a no-brainer. There are so many products that shouldn’t be trusted. One very important thing to keep in mind — the FDA does not have control over “supplements” like many diet pills. They have not been tested and there’s no guarantee about the results.
7. Calories don’t matter.
You always need to take in fewer calories than burned to lose weight, but there are certain products that can help to accelerate the fat burning process.
