Apple picking is the perfect fall activity, and with the change of the seasons just around the corner, now is the time to get out there and enjoy this wonderful activity. Whether you’re taking the family, or want to do something unique for a date, apple picking season is in full swing in San Diego. Here are the best spots for apple picking near San Diego.

Volcan Valley Apple Farm – 1284 Julian Orchards Drive, Julian, CA 92036

As Julian’s largest orchard, Volcan Valley Apple Farm attracts huge crowds every year who are looking to get their pick of the delicious red and green apples lush in the orchards. With seven different varieties to choose from, you can pick up a bag for $12 and head to the field to get your fill! You can also snag some fresh cider at the on-site general store. Volcan Valley is open Friday-Monday from 9:30am-4: 30 pm. 

Apples & Art Orchard – 1052 Julian Orchards Drive, Julian, CA 92036

This orchard accepts groups of 20 or more for their ‘U-Pick’ apple orchard for $12 per person. Groups will be able to pick a “half peck of apples,” or five pounds, of apples. You’ll also be able to spend an afternoon enjoying the orchard, with an apple fact lecture, group cider making, and a tasting. Tours are by appointment only, but this is the perfect place if you’re looking to get together with your extended family for a beautiful day outside in Julian. Tours are open at 1 pm and 3 pm and must be booked ahead of time.

Julian Farm & Orchard – 4444 State Hwy 78, Julian CA 92036

Located at Julian Mining Company, this orchard is one of the most well-known places to pick apples near San Diego. This year’s apple crop is said to be strong and ready for picking this year. If you’re looking to make a day out of it, Julian Farm & Orchard is the place to go. You’ll be able to enjoy apple picking, tractor-drawn hayrides, pumpkin patch, and the Farmer’s Wife store carrying country inspired gifts. Julian Farm & Orchard is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-5pm.

Peacefield Orchard – 3083 Wynola Road, Julian, CA 92036

A small family owned orchard, Peacefield is a unique blend of orchard and farm. Apples available include Granny Smith, Gravenstein, Red Delicious, Jonathan, Mcintosh, and more. They also have several different types of pears and plums available to pick. You can check out their grower-led farm tours, farm-to-table dinner events, and other education classes. Thankfully, Peacefield has a very strong harvest this year, so don’t wait to get your pick. Prices range from $10-$20; be sure to bring some cash, as they do not accept credit cards.
