Weekly Concerts at Balboa Park
Another week flies past us as August draws near. Only a few days of hot July remain for us to enjoy the summer weather. School starts in almost a month for most students. Why not enjoy the little time you have by attending many of the great events our beautiful city has to offer? One great example is the Twilight Summer Concert series. Tuesday through Thursday, Balboa Park plays host to some amazing live performances. Located at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion, the concerts will go from 6:15 to 7:15 with free admission. This week we show our concert updates on the bands listed to perform this week.
July 30 – The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble
Ready to listen to some live beautiful music? On Tuesday night, Balboa Park will host on stage the Hillcrest Wind Ensemble band. The group is a non-profit organization for the Center. They have performed for many concert events such as the Spring Concert, Summer Cabaret Concert, Balboa Park’s Twilight in the Park, the Fall Concert, and Holiday Concert. Once named the Finest City Freedom Band of San Diego, the Hillcrest Wind Ensemble formed originally to provide live and talented music for the LGBT community. Over twenty years later, the band has transformed into one of the finest musical groups in the Southern part of San Diego. According to the band’s website, “With the turn of the new century, the band has evolved into an elite concert band, playing more advanced music with a new mission to entertain the ideal of diversity within our ranks as well as promoting quality music to all of San Diego.” The band’s site also lists future performances as well as concert recordings. The organization’s talented performance is a must see event.
