This Weekend in SD: Tributes, Imagination and Rockabilly

This weekend may be the last chance to go to the San Diego County Fair, but for those who may have already visited the land of deep-fried food and rides, check out what else is happening in San Diego.

Music

On Friday, head to the House of Blues to hear a night of tribute acts, including Led Zepagain – A Tribute to Led Zeppelin and supporting acts Fan Halen and Red Not Chili Peppers. According the Led Zepagain’s website, the band “takes their audience to a place that not only replicates a Led Zeppelin concert, but captures the heart and soul of the world’s greatest band. A Led Zepagain show features all of the Zeppelin highlights.” Tickets for this 21 and older show are $18-$42. The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and doors open at 7 p.m.

Then on Saturday, make sure to see pop songstress Natasha Bedingfield, presented by Freschetta, and supporting acts Kate Voegele and Andy Grammer. The British singer is most famous for her 2004 album “Unwritten,” which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Tickets to this all ages concert are $23-$50 in advance and $27-$52.50 the day of the show. It starts at 8 p.m. and doors open at 7 p.m.

Theater

This weekend, catch one of the many performances of “Peter Gynt” playing at La Jolla Playhouse. The audience can “join the world’s most famous wanderer as he dreams, swindles and charms his way through life in an exhilarating quest for fame and fortune.” Performance times are Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m., Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets start at $35.

Free Events

Those looking to have some fun without spending money this weekend can enter the Nature & Outdoor Recreation Photo Contest, hosted by the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy. The organization is looking for striking digital images of your experience hiking, biking, bird watching or horseback riding within the 94,000-acre planned San Dieguito River Park. Photographers of all skills levels and ages are encouraged to enter, but preference will be given to photographs that include people enjoying an outdoor activity. Winners will be awarded prizes. Then head down to the House of Blues on Sunday for San Diego Harley Davidson Presents “Rockabilly & Ribs.” Starting at 2 p.m., this event will feature free entertainment from The Buzzbombs, grilled ribs with food and drink specials, a pin-up girl contest, a pin-up style booth, craft beer sponsored by Manzanita Brewing Company, gift bags and more. The event is all ages.
