This Weekend in San Diego: Holiday cheer spreads through the county
It’s the first weekend of December, so get those sweaters and scarves out to enjoy some of the fun events happening around the county.
Friday, December 3
Wonderful winter shows are starting up around the area. Head over to the Balboa Theatre as Broadway San Diego presents The Color Purple, a Tony-nominated musical based on the inspiring Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name by Alice Walker. The famous Rockettes are touring the nation as the stars of this year’s Radio City Christmas Spectacular Showing which will be at the San Diego Sports Arena until December 5th.
After supporting microentrepreneurs at the GAIA Oasis Spa Annual Holiday Bazaar, check out th talented students at the University of San Diego as they end their run of Mrs. Bob Cratchit’s Wild Christmas Binge. It is also the final weekend for San Diego State University’s production of Paradise Hotel at the Don Powell Theatre.
Some great bands are hitting the area for a night of music mayhem. Tribal Seeds takes the stage at the Sound Wave while Giant and L.E.D. present Steve Angelo at 4th & B. Rock tribute bands Led Zepagain and Fan Halen will visit the House of Blues.
Saturday, December 4
There are several entertaining shows lined up around the city. Comedian Louis C.K. will be at the Balboa Theatre as part of a nationwide tour. Later on tonight the New York City hip hop legends Wu-Tang Clan reunites at 4th & B.
Showcasing international and local fashion designers, the MTC 2nd Anniversary Fashion & Style Show is taking place at 324 Horton Plaza at 6pm. Although less fashionable, but definitely warm, check out the 8th Annual Turtleneck Sweater Party at Belly Up.
More holiday cheer spreads throughout San Diego as the North Park Toyland Parade starts today and last through tomorrow, December 5th. Also the Birch North Park Theatre presents a San Diego Ballet Seasonal Offering along with a free community screening of the film How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
The best things in life are free, so check out Choir and Organ at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion as the San Diego Children’s Choir join in concert with civic organist Carol Williams. Gifted violinist Midori will be visiting the Balboa Theatre to perform several sonatas by Beethoven and Bach amongst others.
Before enjoying Pelectronic pop band Passion Pit as they rock the Casbah tonight, be sure to support your local San Diego Chargers as they face off against the Oakland Raiders at Qualcomm Stadium or frolic around the Holiday Wonderland in Del Mar.
