Weekend events in San Diego
There are a lot of exciting events this weekend here in San Diego. On the horizon we have hot new movies coming out, festivals, music, and marathon races.
Must see movie
The highly anticipated film, “The Hunger Games” will be debuting this weekend. Starring Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Harrelson, Josh Hutcherson, and Elizabeth Banks this star studded cast is sure to please the audience. The film’s future setting takes place in the ruins of what used to be North America, now known as Panem. The nation is split into twelve districts and is ruled under the iron thumb of the Capitol. In order to control the masses the Capitol invents a cruel and ruthless form of competition called The Hunger Games. The competition requires each district to send a boy and girl to battle against each other to the death .
Wonderland Friday’s at Andaz Nightvlub
Dance the night away at the Andaz Nightclub’s Wonderland Fridays. According to the Union Tribune, “Guests are invited to step foot into an alternate universe filled with fantasy and illusion at Wonderland Fridays Presented by Fortune Industries.” The club’s site lists the guest hosts of that evening, March 23, will be Camilla Luddington of Californiacation, Oscar Wylde, CJG, Este. The party will be showcased by Lipstik Inc.
Second Annual Tour De Cuisine
If you feel like having a dinning experience then check out the Second Annual Tour De Cuisine. Indulge in elegant French wine and cuisine and be given the chance to participate in a sweepstakes to win a round trip flight to Paris. Restaurants that will be participating in the weekly celebration are Bleu Boheme, BO-beau kitchen + bar, Vagabond Kitchen of the world, Vincent’s, The French Gourmet, The Wine Seller and Brasserie, and The Marine Room. The Tour De Cuisine starts off this Saturday, March 24 and ends on Sunday, April 1st. Bon Appétit!
Sixth Annual Busker Festival at Seaport Village
Seaport Village’s Sixth Annual Busker Festival will be taking place this weekend. The Festival is scheduled from Saturday, March 24 to Sunday, March 25 and will be open from noon to 5 p.m. The best part is that the festival is free to attend so don’t worry about having to shrink your wallet. One may ask, what are Buskers? Buskers are street performers who are known for performing their acts in a fun, unique, and humorous way. This year the Seaport Village will be hosting the only festival there is for Buskers in Southern California. Throughout the two-day festival, some of the nation’s top performers will fill the bay front village. So come and enjoy fun free live entertainment.
2012 La Mesa Village Antique Street Fair
For those who like antiques, there will be the 2012 La Mesa Village Antique Street Fair. The Street Fair will be located on La Mesa Boulevard where dealers from all over California will be sporting their wares. The event will be hosted by the La Mesa Village Merchants Association and is scheduled to be open on Sunday, March 25, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
10th Annual Taka Sumi-e Art Show and Sale
Calling all art enthusiast, The Friends of Taka Sumi-e Society will be hosting the 10th Annual Taka Sumi-e Art Show and Sale. The society was founded in 2002 and, according to its site, it is “an art-based society in San Diego, California, dedicated to studying and sharing the art of Japanese style sumi-e brush painting.” The art show will be on Saturday, March 24 at 11 a.m. and will be located at the Casa Del Prado Building in Balboa Park.
2012 Race for Autism
Want to exercise for a good cause? This Saturday will be the 2012 Race for Autism in Balboa Park. The 5K race will be held from 7 a.m. to noon. Autism now affects one in every 110 children today in the United States. According to the National Foundation For Autism Research, Autism is one of the fastest growing disorders in children and that “Every step taken in the 5K represents a child
with autism in San Diego.” All of the proceeds that will be received from the race will be donated back into the community through programs and services geared towards children with autism.
With all these fun events in store this weekend should be exciting.
