Veteran’s Day events
The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month: Armistice Day of the First World War, 1918. President Woodrow Wilson signed a law in 1919 proclaiming November 11 a federal holiday called Armistice Day, and honoring all those who fought in World War I. In 1954, President Eisenhower signed a law expanding the holiday to include celebrating all those who fought in World War II, and changing the name to Veterans Day. Now, all veterans of all U.S. wars are honored for their service to our country.
From 1971 to 1978, Veterans Day was officially celebrated on the fourth Monday in October. Moved back to November 11 in 1978, this year the holiday happens to fall on a Monday. Here are two events in San Diego on this Veterans Day:
Active and retired military to be honored at Pechanga Casino on Veterans Day

2013 San Diego Veterans Day Parade: “A Tribute to Vietnam Veterans”
The San Diego Veterans Day Parade is produced by Veterans Week San Diego and presented by the USS Midway Museum. It is open to all, free of charge to view or to participate. As Veterans Day is observed nationwide, the San Diego Veterans Day Parade recognizes the contributions of all of our Veterans from every branch of Armed Forces in all eras of service. Our 2013 Parade includes “A Tribute To Vietnam Veterans”, during the USA 50th Year Commemorative of the Vietnam War 1962 – 1975. A long-deserved special thank you will be shown to all US Veterans who served in uniform during those Vietnam War years.
