Twilight Nights at the Park
After a long week of crazy Comic-Con fans and watching the Padres’ overall defeat against the Cardinals, one can now settle in for a week of fun and relaxation. One option of fun we provide is our weekly list of concerts performed in Balboa Park. Each week bands from all over San Diego County perform live at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. The Twilight in the Park concert series goes from 6:15 to 7:15 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Admission to the concerts is free for everyone. To help decide which days to go, here is a list of the bands performing this week.
July 23 – San Diego Youth Symphony (Balboa Park’s Resident Youth Symphony)
A fan of beautiful symphony orchestra music? Come to Tuesday’s night of live music produced by the San Diego Youth Symphony. Known for its excellence in providing education in the musical arts and inspiration for its young musicians, the San Diego Youth Symphony will put its students to the test in this live performance. According to the company’s website, “SDYS’ musical excellence has been recognized nationally with a Music Alive/League of American Orchestras ‘Composer-in-Residence’ award. In its 67 year history, the orchestra has performed 13 foreign concert tours in 18 foreign countries.” Listen to San Diego’s skilled young students as they proudly display their talents on stage for their audience.
July 24 – Marine Band San Diego (Patriotic, Traditional, and Contemporary)
Ready to show off your patriotic pride of our military? On Wednesday evening, the Marine Band San Diego will show off their music. In 1921, the company was created to help bring support for their Recruitment Training Regiment as well as other military organizations. The military band has attended hundreds of military ceremonies as well as countless other non-military events. On the official Marine Corps website, it states the “Marine Band San Diego has thrilled countless thousands by averaging nearly four hundred commitments a year.” Drive over to Balboa Park and listen to the patriotic music of the USA.
July 25 – San Diego Civic Dance Arts (Elite Dance Company)
If you are more interested in watching live dance performances rather than music then come Thursday night to the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. The San Diego Civic Dance Arts will send out their talented students to dance on stage. According to the non-profit organization’s website, “With a current enrollment of 2,600 students, the Civic Dance Arts Program has been the crown jewel of San Diego’s cultural, and recreational offerings continuously for over fifty years.” Students perform for various events for their camps, classes, and workshops. Many who graduated from the organization still participate in the arts. Come and support your local dance company as they dance across the pavilion.
