Twilight Concert Week in Balboa

The weekend has rushed past us again in a blur of summer festivities. Our beloved team, the Padres, scored a shocking 10-1 against the Giants last Sunday and Petco Park celebrated Army Appreciation Day for the troops. And let us not forget the famous and highly exciting San Diego PRIDE parade and party on Saturday. Bands from all over came out to perform for those who participated in the parade. Our weekend is now gone and our weekdays have now returned. To help start off your week, we are releasing our weekly update on the the upcoming Twilight Concerts in Balboa Park. Band members will perform at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion on Tuesday to Thursday from 6:15 to 7:15. Admission is free to all who attend these wonderful concerts. Below is our list of this week’s participants.

July 16 – Screamin’ Primas (Louis Prima Tribute Band)

In honor of the great musician Louis Prima, the Screamin’ Primas is known for their performances in the late 1950’s era of club music. All of the band’s music is a recreation of Louis’ music and style. On the band’s facebook page, they mention they are one of the top Louis Prima tribute bands in the nation. Additionally, the site states the are  “Delivering the fun and style of a Rat-Pack era Louis Prima show. High energy from the very start to their Mardi Gras-style finale.” An example of the group’s participation in past events can be found on their Youtube link. Come to Balboa Park on Tuesday evening to watch the 8-piece combo play live on stage.

July 17 – Breez’n (Variety)

Feel like dancing the night away? The Breez’n band will perform on Wednesday night at Balboa Park. Formed in 1995, the Miramar based enemble’s music includes a large variety of “dance party” music. They perform a large range of music genres such as R&B, swing, pop, jazz, rock, disco, blues, and Latin. On the band’s profile on Gigmasters, their biography states, “Our award winning service, extreme versatility, extensive songlist, audience rapport, talent and showmanship including state-of the art sound system and lighting effects makes Breez’n the perfect choice for any event.” If you are interested in checking out some of their past performances, go to their Youtube links on their band site. Come down and dance to an hour full of great upbeat and lively music.

July 18 – Uncle Bob and the Earth Movers featuring Lady J (Chicago Blues)

Ready for a fun-filled Blues night? On Thursday evening, the Uncle Bob and the Earth Movers band will perform live at the organ pavilion. In 1999, the band formed initially as a cover band that focused its music on Chicago Blues. In 2009, “Featuring Lady J” was added to the name after the band hired on a new lead singer.  As members left and new ones filled in the empty spots, the band’s blues music adapted and changed according to the members’ influences and talents. The Earthmovers are well-known throughout San Diego and have performed at many venues and special events. When the members competed in the 2011 regional International Blues Challenge competition, they were one of the top five finalists. According to their Facebook band page, “Whether playing blazing Rockin’ blues, a scorching Slow burner, a soul-stirring R&B number, or a fiery heartfelt love ballad, The Earthmovers Featuring Lady J guarantee an exceptional, thrilling, and most-memorable entertainment experience!” To witness a sample of their music, check out their Youtube link.
