This week’s events at the Del Mar Racetrack

Explore the Del Mar Racetrack this week for exciting activities for families, couples, and groups! The Racetrack is closed Mondays and Tuesdays, but the rest of the week is jam-packed with music, seminars, and (of course!) horse racing.

Wednesday through Sunday, the Racetrack holds a Newcomers’ Seminar that takes place between 1:00 pm and 1:45 pm, where you can learn all about the racing basics. Get tips on betting strategies, money management, selections, and more! Horse racing begins at 2:00 PM and ends around 7:00 PM. You can stay for the whole event or you can also take part in all the other great activities that occur during the races.

Here is the rundown of special events that are going on this week:

Wednesday, July 29:

Today is our first Free & Easy Wednesday at Del Mar. Sign up to be a Diamond Club member and receive free admission, a free program, and a free seat every Wednesday, along with half price beers, sodas, and hot dogs!

Thursday, July 30:

Oggi’s Pizza ‘n Ponies Thursdays! Go to Southern California Oggi’s Restaurants and pick up a Pizza ‘n Ponies coupon. Present it to the Stretch Run Admission Gates for half off on Stretch Run admission and program, a Stretch Run reserved seat, Oggi’s personal cheese pizza, and soft drink. Normally a $22 value for just $11! Great for families!

Friday, July 31:

Gather your friends or that special someone and enjoy an up-close and personal concert following the end of the races on Friday night. The Wailers, the legendary Reggae band, will capture the feel of summer with this Jamaican style music.

Saturday, August 1:

Get ready for the races with the Craft Microbrew Festival and the FM 94/9 Local Music Showcase this Saturday! For just $15 for 5 tastings, choose from over 50 different local and non-local brews while 94.9 treats you to live music by local bands Get Back Loretta, The Silent Comedy and Heavy Glow. (12:00 PM – 6:00 PM)

If beer isn’t your choice, get up a little earlier to join the Del Mar jockeys for a question and answer session with free donuts, coffee, and orange juice! Take a behind-the-scenes look at Thoroughbred racing and watch the horses during their morning workouts. (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM)

Kids 12 and under get their own Pony Boy!

Sunday, August 2:

Looking for a fun, cheap family activity in San Diego? Look no further than Family Sundays at the Del Mar Racetrack! Children receive free racetrack admission, and adults are only $6. Free activities include: inflatable games and rides, giant scramble slide and obstacle course, pony rides, magic shows, stilt walkers, face paint, and more! And children 12 and under will receive a “Pony Boy” plush toy! (1:00 PM -6:00 PM)
