This Weekend in SD: Reggae, Rock and Remodeling
There is a vast array of events lined-up for San Diego county this last weekend of January and it’s been a great month so far. Be sure to head out this weekend and check out what’s happening around our city.
It’s a weekend of music magic at 4th & B thanks to NSD Productions. Head over on Thursday for the Local Roots & Reggae Showcase featuring Rough and Steady and pop-in Saturday for the Local Rock Showcase with Awaiting Samsara, Monkeys In Space, Bankers Hill, Inberst, Theleventhour, and A Cadillac Murder.
Also check out Grammy Award-winning Mexican singer Luis Miguel as he fills up Viejas Arena at San Diego State University Thursday night. Rocking the House of Blues this weekend is Tainted Love on Friday as well as Amos Lee with Vusi Mahlasela on Saturday.
Sports
Saturday is a big day for local sports as the San Diego State Aztec Men’s Basketball team take on Wyoming at Viejas Arena. Prior to their Wednesday, January 26th loss against BYU, the Aztecs were undefeated at the #4 spot in the national rankings. If you weren’t able to get tickets to the long-sold-out event, be sure to tune-in because this game should not be missed. The SDSU Aztecs vs. Wyoming Cowboys game is at 7pm on the 29th.
San Diego athleticism continues at the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend with a soccer showdown. The San Diego Sockers go up against Revolucion Tijuana. Can’t catch the game in person? Listen to it live at 619Sports.net.
Be sure to catch the two stage shows of C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters at the Balboa Theatre. Also starting this weekend is Giacomo Puccini’s Turandot presented by the San Diego Opera, which will run from January 29th until February 6th.
Multi-day
The Del Mar Fairgrounds will be hosting a pair of multi-day events this weekend. Running from Friday, January 28th through Sunday, January 30th will be the Home Decorating & Remodeling Show. Admission is free all weekend long. Check out the latest exhibits in home improvement and enter for a chance to a free bathroom remodeling. On Saturday and Sunday, stop by for the San Diego Pet Expo. There will be adoptions, competitions and fashion shows all weekend long.
