This Weekend in San Diego (April 7 – 9): Grand Openings and Weekend Long Festivals Galore
Still don’t have plans for the weekend? San Diego weather is forecast to be partly to mostly sunny, so this weekend in San Diego gives you the opportunity to explore outside by going to festivals, sporting matches, or simply soak up the sun. If you want to have as memorable of a weekend as possible, make sure to check out these events.
Infinity Cube at Birch Aquarium
The Birch aquarium opens it’s newest installation of the Infinity Cube on Friday, April 7. This installation examines bioluminescence, meaning light produced by living marine organisms. The 8-foot cube surrounds guests in projected and reflected larger-than-life images of bioluminescence in accordance with soundscape. Purchase tickets to the Birch Aquarium to see this interactive experience up close and personal.
San Diego Padres Home Opener against SF Giants
Baseball fans, get excited for this weekend because the season is finally here! Though the Padres haven’t been the most reliable team over the years, make sure to show your home team support this weekend as the Padres celebrate opening day at Petco against rivals, the SF Giants, on April 7. Purchase tickets as soon as you can before they sell out, but as important, be sure to enjoy lots of cotton candy and hot dogs at the game.
Wheel Chair OTL Tournament
The 39th Wheel Chair Over the Line tournament commences this Saturday, April 8, presented by the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club in downtown on West Harbor Drive. At the event, top level wheel chair athletes of all ages compete all day long in Over-the-Line. Registration starts at 7:30 am and runs through 9:00 am. Admission to the tournament is free and a complimentary lunch is even offered! Make sure to donate to OMBAC for sponsoring this event.
Bikes and Beers
Back for a fourth year, the Bikes and Brews event occurs this weekend on Saturday, April 8 and focuses on the benefits of cycling as a form of transportation and serves a plethora of delicious craft beer. Bikes and Beers takes place in Mission Bay and offers a 15 or 30 mile bike rides to participants. After the bike ride, event-goers receive 2 well deserved beers sponsored by the Mike Hess Brewing company. Puesto Turns 5 – Free Tacos!
In honor of Puesto’s fifth anniversary of it’s founding location in La Jolla, the Mexico-style restaurant is hosting a birthday party you don’t want to miss. On Sunday April 9 at 10 am, Puesto will serve complimentary tacos and aguas frescas in the courtyard of The Headquarters. In fact, there will even be face painters, balloon artists and jumpy houses for entertainment. Turn this event into a family affair and enjoy delicious tacos this weekend in San Diego.

Healthy Living Festival at Del Mar Fairgrounds
The 6th annual Healthy Living Festival takes place at the Del Mar Fairgrounds this weekend in San Diego. With only a 10 dollar admission, enjoy 30 free workshops, seminars, and cooking demonstrations. You can also visit 200 exhibitors offering the latest healthy living products and services, take advantage of free medical testing, and try out various fitness classes. VinDiego Wine and Food Festival
Nothing beats wine, food, and San Diego. The 5th Annual VinDiego Wine and Food Festival features over 70 top tier wineries from Napa, Sonoma, and Temecula. Additionally, over 25 of San Diego’s very best chefs will serve food samples for you to taste. This grand tasting event occurs this Saturday, April 8, 2017 from 3:00pm-7:00pm at Liberty Station. Coastal Country Jam
Arguably the most beautiful venue in San Diego for concerts, Waterfront Park in downtown, will host the Coastal Country Jam this weekend from 12:00pm-9:00pm. Purchase tickets and sing to artists like Justin Moore, Daniel Bonte, and Stephen Wesley all night long in your cowboy boots.
Coronado Flower Show
The city of Coronado presents the Coronado Flower Show this weekend in San Diego. Filled with the sweet aroma of endless flowers, you don’t want to miss this event. On April 7, the show offers an outdoor family movie. The actual flower show event is from on April 8 to April 9. On April 8, enjoy the flower show from 1:00pm-5:00pm and on April 9, tour the show from 10:00am-4:00pm. Admission never sells out, so simply pay at the gate!
