This weekend in San Diego will be one for the books. Whether you like avoiding the crowd at mellow events or if you’re a night owl who likes to party, there’s something out there this weekend for you.
Friday 6/30
Chris Distefano at The American Comedy Club
If you had a rough week and you need a good laugh, look no further than stand-up comedy at The American Comedy Club. Chris Distefano will be performing all weekend. He’s a high energy comic who is well-versed in stand-up. He’s worked at all of the top comedy clubs across New York City including Gotham Comedy Club, Carolines on Broadway, and The Comedy Cellar. You might be familiar with Chris from his shows on MTV; He is a current cast member on MTV2s hit show “GuyCode” and he has also been featured on MTVs “GirlCode” “Failosiphy” and “Money From Strangers”.
San Diego County Fair
San Diego’s annual county fair is the largest fair in California, offering the most unique deep-fried foods you can imagine, great entertainment, interesting exhibits, rides & games throughout the beautiful and historical Del Mar Fairgrounds in the oceanfront village of Del Mar.
Balboa Park After Dark
On Fridays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, eight Balboa Park museums will be open late, and a rotating selection of food trucks will be parked on the Plaza de Panama and Prado walkways for Balboa Park Conservancy’s Food Truck Friday. The programs are designed for those who are unable to visit the park during the day.
Museums include the Japanese Friendship Garden, San Diego Museum of Art, Mingei International Museum, San Diego Art Institute, Spanish Village, San Diego Museum of Man, San Diego Natural History Museum, and the Fleet Science Center.
Saturday 7/1
Padres vs. Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park
Catch the San Diego Padres take on the Los Angeles Dodgers at Petco Park! First pitch is at 7:10pm, so you’ll have plenty of time to cruise over after work. Padres BeerFest coincides with this game, so get to the park at 5pm if you can! During Beerfest at Petco Park, you have the opportunitu to sample beers from 18 different breweries. Beer samples are $5 for 12 ounces. Beer tasting commences at 5pm and continues until just before the first pitch.
The Princess Bride at Cinema Under the Stars
If you’ve never experienced a movie at Cinema Under the Stars, this weekend is a good one to check it out: Heroes. Giants. Villains. Swordplay. Wizards. Scaling the Cliffs of Insanity, Battling rodents of unusual size, Facing torture in the Pit of Despair—-True love has never been a snap. The cult classic Princess Bride will be playing Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.
Rock the Yacht Cruise
Hit the dance floor to the latest hits and throwbacks from a DJ and get for some great photo ops with classic backdrops of the Coronado Bridge, USS Midway, and the San Diego skyline. The two hour cruise around San Diego Bay includes live DJ entertainment and cash bar, with drink package upgrades available. The cruise is 21+.
Sunday 7/2
Old Town Artisan Market
Each Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4:30pm, Old Town hosts San Diego’s largest weekly artisan market featuring handmade works from local artisans. The market includes handcrafted items such as jewelry, photography, pottery, clothing, paintings, hand painted glass, woodworking’s and more. It is absolutely free and while you’re there, you can visit the many museums and learn about the history of Old Town.
Cat Power with Jade at The Observatory
Located in the thriving community of North Park on University Avenue, the Observatory is a historic venue that people love for its intimacy and charm. Cat Power’s soft, melodic tunes are perfect for this setting and seeing her perform live would be a great way to end your weekend.
