Summertime Concerts in Balboa Park

Spreckels PavilionSummer is definitely here. One can feel it in the air as the heat traps you like a warm suffocating blanket. In order to escape the heat, stay inside some cool air conditioned places and travel out at night. What better way to spend an evening in San Diego than taking a friend, family member, or a loved one to a concert? Balboa Park hosts its yearly Summertime Concert Series, Twilight in the Park.

“The Twilight in the Park Summer Concerts are some of the most popular summertime events in Balboa Park” (Balboa Park Site).

Tuesday through Thursday, an independent musical group performs at the Spreckels Organ Pavilion from 6:15 to 7:15. Admission is free for everyone. To help decide on which day to attend, we have provided a scheduled list of this week’s bands.

Tuesday, June 25                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Stars on the Water–Tropical Rock ‘n’ Roll                                                                                                                                                        Ready to dance to a high powered combo of tropical rock n’ roll and reggae? On Tuesday evening, the popular vocal quartet, Stars on the Water, will perform on stage. The band is locally based right here in San Diego and is nationally known. According to the band’s site, “This quartet of high energy entertainers and vocal gymnasts always finds ways to get the crowd dancing and singing along.” They perform all over the United States for festivals, corporate events, fundraisers for different charities, and parrot head club events. If you are looking to have a fun tropical party, the group also performs for private parties. Come join in for some tropical fun for this night’s concert.

Wednesday, June 26                                                                                                                                                                                                    Navy Band Southwest Wind Ensemble – Patriotic favorites and Big BandSpreckels Organ Pavilion           Feel like listening to some good old fashioned patriotic music? The Navy Band Southwest Wind Ensemble will perform live on Wednesday evening. The band was founded on June 1, 1923 and its members are some of the Navy’s finest men. According to the band’s facebook page, “Navy Band Southwest is one of the Navy’s finest and oldest continuing musical organizations. Now with over 80 years of support to the San Diego community, the band serves as the musical ambassador for the Commander, Navy Region Southwest.” The band performs for a variety of events throughout San Diego including Navy ceremonies, the City of Poway Community Band Festival, Navy’s 27th Annual Bay Bridge Run, and Showband West at the San Diego Repertoire Theater.

Thursday, June 27                                                                                                                                                                                                                  Cool Fever – Old school R & B, Motown, swing and dance tunes                                                                                                                     If you feel like swing dancing to some rock and roll tunes, then this band’s night will entertain you. On Thursday evening, the Cool Fever Band will perform at the pavilion. Founded on January 1, 2005, the band is known for its ability to brilliantly mix some Blues, R&B, and Rock and Roll into their music. On the band’s facebook page, all of the shows’ mixed music is “mixed by sound engineer Steve Sands.” The group performs for many venues in Southern California that includes Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, San Diego’s House of Blues, Coronado Yacht Club, Islands Sports & Spirit, and more.
