San Diego Weekend Events 7/19 – 7/22
This upcoming weekend promises many exciting events. There will be RoboSub competitions, Padre games, Santee concerts, Pride Parade and festivals, Del Mar horse races, book signings and more. Come check out our list of weekend activities to enjoy.
Padres Games
During the next few days the San Diego Padres will be competing on their own turf in Petco Park. Thursday’s game will be against the Houston Astros at 7:05 PM.
The Padres will also play against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Times for the following games will be Friday at 7:05 p.m., Saturday at 5:35 p.m., and Sunday at 1:05 p.m.. Tickets will vary in price depending on the seat choice.
Eddie Campbell Book Signing
Eddie Campbell, author of “Days of Our Lives 45 Years, A Celebration in Photos,” has come out with a new book. The author’s new book, “44 Horrible Dates,” has been labeled as a hilarious memoir of a man’s past experience with bad dates. “Told in a witty, R-rated style similar to Chelsea Handler, Eddie’s stories are relatable to anyone who has ever been on one horrible date and a great read for anyone who has not!” (Campbell Author Site).
This Thursday night, the 19th, Campbell will be doing a book signing at the Upstart Crow at 7 p.m..
Del Mar Racing Season
Starting last Wednesday, July 19th, the Del Mar Racing Grounds opened to the public. The races will continue up until September 5th. Admission prices are $6.00 for the stretch Run and $10.00 for the Clubhouse.
This Saturday there will be the 75th Anniversary Celebration where $75 will be awarded to every 75th person who is admitted.
Santee Blues and BBQ Concert
This Thursday night the Stoney B. Blues Band and the Bill Magee Blues Band will be performing at the Town Center Community Park East in Santee. There will be a beer garden and a buffet of BBQ food provided by Phil’s BBQ.
The concert and BBQ will go from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.. So come with a hearty appetite and a good ear for music.
Encinitas Classic Car Nights
Got a passion for classic cars? Then this Thursday night’s Car Night is the night for you. At the South Coast Highway, from D Street to J Street, there will be a variety of classic and vintage cars on display. In addition, there will be beautiful music provided by Moondance at Encinitas Smog.
The event will go from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Downtown Encinitas.
Annual LGBT Pride Parade & Festival
This weekend the San Diego LGBT Pride organization will be hosting their annual Parade and Festival events. The events have been known to attract almost 200,000 spectators and participants. SD LGBT’s Pride Parade is the fourth largest within the United States.
The organization’s weekend events will first start off with the Spirit of Stonewall Awards, Flag Raising, and Rally on Friday, July 20th, from 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m..
There will also be the first Pride of Hillcrest Block Party on Friday. The Block Party will be held on University Avenue and Normal Street from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.. There will be dancing, music, food, drinks, and even a Ferris Wheel. Tickets to the party can be purchased at TicketLeap.
Saturday, July 21st, there will be the Pride Parade and Festival. The parade will start at 11:00 a.m. on University Ave and Normal Street. It will be a 1.5 mile parade that will last 2 hours. The theme of the parade will be America’s Pride.
The SD LGBT Pride Festival will be a two day event on Saturday July 21 and Sunday July 22 at Marston Point in Balboa Park. On Saturday the festival will go from noon to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.. 55,000 people will be the desired amount of attendants.
“San Diego Pride’s famous cultural Festival includes multiple stages of entertainment, more than 80 musicians, bands, comedy and dance performers, 300 participating vendor booths, an Art exhibit, cultural presentations, and great food!” (SD LGBT Pride).
Bearracuda Bear Pride Night Party
This Friday night there will be the Bearracuda party with San Francisco DJ Matt Consola at the Ruby Room (located on University Ave). The party will go from 9:00 PM to 2:00 AM. People who will attend the party before 10 PM will pay a $6 admittance fee and those who enter after 10:00 PM will pay a $10 admittance fee.
15th Annual RoboSub Competition
Curious about how robotics can work underwater? This weekend will be your chance to learn and watch as High School and College students compete in the 15th Annual RoboSub Competition.
“Co-sponsored by the U.S. Office of Naval Research (ONR), the goal of this competition is to advance the development of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) by challenging a new generation of engineers to perform realistic missions in an underwater environment.” (AUVSI Foundation).
The competition will start on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. and continue throughout the weekend until 5:00 p.m. Sunday. There will also be SeaPerch demonstrations. The competitions will be held at the SSC Pacific TRANSDEC in San Diego and admission will be free.
