San Diego Symphony presents November’s first events
The San Diego Symphony has three wonderfully diverse concerts scheduled for this week, if you’re in the mood for some musical entertainment:
November 1st — Día de los Muertos: A Winter Pops Special Concert
At 7:30PM in Copley Symphony Hall, Soprano Mónica Ábrego, Tenor Rafael Palomar, and mariachi legend Oscar Amezcua will be accompanied by Southern California’s mariachi ensemble, Mariachi Champaña Nevin in this celebration of the “Day of the Dead,” featuring musical and dance tributes to some of Mexico’s most famous musical artists. Dance sequences will be presented by Ballet Folklórico Flores del Desierto.
El Día de los Muertos is a Latin American holiday designed to honor and remember deceased loved ones, and according to conductor Jeff Nevin, is “one of the most beautiful aspects of traditional Mexican culture.” The concert is designed to evoke memories of the past and those who are no longer physically amongst us, but celebrating how they continue live on in our memories.
Tickets are still available, with prices ranging from $35 to $80. All sales are final—there are no refunds.
November 4th — Saint-Saëns’ “Organ” Symphony: A Symphony Exposed Concert
At 7:3PM in Copley Symphony Hall, host Nuvi Mehta will dissect the work and personality of musical genius Camille Saint-Saëns. Jahja Ling will take the role of conductor, and Robert Plimpton that of the organist.
Tickets are still available at $20 each. All sales are final—there are no refunds.
