San Diego Summer Events and Festivals Schedule

Wonderful and sunny San Diego summers are definitely what most people know the city for but what most people don’t know, is that there is so much more to enjoy in San Diego than just the weather.

Check out some upcoming local events and festivals that are sure to provide at least a little more than just fun in the sun.

Secret Garden Tour of Old La Jolla

On May 14th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. the La Jolla Historical Society will be holding the 13th annual Secret Garden Tour of Old La Jolla, which provides event goers with the opportunity to see behind the walls that conceal some of La Jolla’s most spectacular homes and gardens. The tour is self-guided and costs $40 for Society members and is $50 for non-members. Tickets are available on the La Jolla Historical Society website.

Fiesta Metric Century Bicycle Ride

The 3rd Annual Fiesta Metric Century Ride is a 100 kilometer paved recreational bicycling event. The event isn’t a race, but rather a nice chance for locals to spend a morning and afternoon cycling around the wonderfully sunny San Diego County. There is an option of distances that range from 20, 45, and 62 miles for all types of cyclists. The event will take place on Saturday June 11th at 7 a.m.

The finish line ties in the “fiesta” part of the event’s name and will be a Fiesta Mexican style buffet that will be catered by El Indio Restaurant and the meal is included in the cost of participation. There will also be live music by Manny Cededa’s Salsa Trio. For more information on the event check out the event website.

San Diego Symphony Summer Pops 2011

The Summer Pops series is an event put on by the San Diego Symphony and Bridgepoint Education, the series runs from late June until early September and each event usually begins around 7:30 p.m. or 8 p.m. The event is an annual outdoor summer concert series that is performed on a stage at the Embarcadero Marina Park South, on the San Diego Bay.

Summer Pops is a 10-week-series of concerts which all feature the San Diego Symphony and some of today’s hottest pop acts. For more information on the concert series and for tickets check out the San Diego Symphony website.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

Feeding America San Diego is participating in the nation’s largest single-day food collection drive to help feed over 440,000 San Diego locals that are facing hunger each year. San Diego Letter Carriers and Feeding America San Diego are partnering to participate in the Stamp Out Hunger food drive. The event has been running since May 9th and will continue until May 14th. San Diego residents can donate non-perishable food items at Chillers Showroom in Pacific Beach from now until May 14th. Letter carriers and Feed America San Diego are both doing their parts by sponsoring means of collection, if you’d like to help support the cause check out this website for more information.

Fiesta del sol

The Fiesta del sol is an annual family and community event that features live music, an arts and crafts fair, children’s activities, an international food court, a beer and wine garden, and a “green alley.” This year’s 32nd annual festival will be held on June 4th and 5th and is adjacent to Fletcher Cove in Solana Beach and bordered by South Sierra Avenue and Acacia Avenue. The festival begins at 9 a.m. and closes at 9 p.m. For more information, check out the festival website.

CityFest

CityFest is a music, arts, crafts, and food festival in the heart of Hillcrest that celebrates the community spirit through all of these artistic means. The festival attracts over 150,000 attendees year and this year marks the 27th year that Hillcrest will be holding the event. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, August 14th from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m. For more information on the festivals activities and for more general information check out the website.
