San Diego Museum Month: The Best Deals This February
San Diego Museum Month offers great deals, with forty participating locations. This is the 22nd year that Museum month will take place, and why not take this great opportunity to see some fascinating exhibits? Macy’s, along with the Museum Council, are offering half-off admission. According to the San Diego Museum Council website, “One pass is valid for up to four half-off admissions.” This is perfect for attending the museums with family and friends.
Some of the participating locations include: Birch Aquarium at Scripps, Coronado Museum of History and Art, Museum of Making Music, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, and San Diego Botanic Gardens.
Birch Aquarium, located near UC San Diego in La Jolla, features a variety of exhibits, and over 60 habitats. These exhibits include: The Hall of Fishes and Shark Reef, featuring a 70,000 gallon kelp forest tank, along with beautiful coral reef displays, and a 13,000 gallon shark tank. The aquarium also includes an interactive exhibit where guests can learn about whale habitats and communication. Birch Aquarium offers many more intriguing exhibits that you do not want to miss during Museum Month.
Coronado History of Museum and Art features historical documents that highlight San Diego’s past. The museum is participating in a national celebration of the Centennial of the Naval Aviation, and has transformed this celebration into a museum exhibit, titled Wings of Gold. The exhibit opened Friday, February 4th and includes original items such as a pilot’s uniform and the helmet belonging to one of the first female aviators. The Enchanted Island Exhibit illustrates Coronado’s distinctive history, including a collection of historical photographs which date back to the 1880s. The museum is conveniently located near the beautiful Hotel Del Coronado, so it is highly encouraged to also make a visit to this historic landmark.
The Museum of Making Music, established in 1988, features an educational experience for guests to learn about the history of American music. It is located in Carlsbad, and includes daily events such as concerts, hands-on workshops, volunteer opportunities, and much more. If you are a music lover, this is the museum for you. One of the current exhibits is called “On! The Beginnings of Electric Sound Generation,” which goes until this March, so this is not something to miss out on. According to the museums website, it “focuses on the period between 1900 and 1965 when innovative thinkers worked to harness electrical energy to produce sounds and tones in a variety of electric instruments.” This museum is great for all ages, and engages people from all different backgrounds to develop personal connections to music.
Those are just a few of the many captivating museums that are participating in San Diego Museum Month. For a full list of the locations, please visit sandiegomuseumcouncil.org. To get passes, go to any Macy’s store in San Diego County. Don’t miss out on this incredible experience!
