Learn to Dance at The Lot’s Salsa Sundays
Sometimes it’s nice to just let loose and do something a little out of the norm. If you’ve never tried Salsa dancing, a great opportunity awaits you each Sunday at the Lot in Liberty Station. The Lot Liberty Station is not just home to a wonderful cinema, it also features a completely glass-enclosed café, bar and restaurant space — perfect for dancing the night away! Every Sunday from 6-10pm, the bar at The Lot turns into a dance floor. From 6-6:30, a Salsa class is taught by Majesty in Motion Dance Company. After 6:30, you’ll spend the rest of the evening practicing your moves and making new friends!
The folks at Majesty in Motion (MIM) are dedicated to high-energy performance, a jazzy style, and precise musicality. Founded in 2002 by David and Jennifer Stein, MIM has become the largest salsa company is San Diego. Majesty In Motion provides over 15 years experience in teaching and directing teams and they encourage all members of the community to express themselves through creative movement, teamwork, and leadership. If you’re going to learn to Salsa dance, the instructors at MIM are a great resource!
Even if you’re a bit shy, Salsa Sundays are nothing to be nervous about. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The experienced dancers are more than happy to teach a thing or two, and it’s all in good fun. And if you need a little bit of liquid courage to get moving, the bar is close by! You’ll spend the evening dancing to DJ Travieso playing the best Salsa and Bachata music.
We happened upon this gem of a good time when we were waiting at the bar before our showing of Wonder Woman. Little did we know that the bar would soon fill with music and dancing and that it would be difficult to leave to go watch our movie. As we sat at the bar and our eyes followed the dancers, we were mesmerized by their movements and the way they so gracefully tore up the dance floor. The floor was full of people of all ages and different walks of life, and you got the sense that everyone there was just up for having a good time.
At Salsa Sunday, everyone is a friend and nobody will judge you. All of the dancers are encouraging and welcoming, and even the most novice dancer feels comfortable and at ease. If learning to dance has been on your bucket list, this is a great place to start. The cover is only $10 and you’ll be learning from seasoned pros! Stop by and see for yourself!
