Moonlight hosts annual Gala on June 27
Tony Award-winning actor Brian Stokes Mitchell headlines this year’s Moonlight Gala Event an, titled A New Stage for the Moonlight Amphitheatre, June 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30pm.
The highlight of the event will be the musical performance by one of Broadway’s finest talents, Brian Stokes Mitchell, who has enjoyed a rich and varied career on Broadway, television and film. Mitchell began his acting career right here in San Diego with the San Diego Junior Theatre, under the tutelage of Directors/Choreographers Don and Bonnie Ward, known to many for their work at the Moonlight. Mitchell’s illustrious Broadway career includes starring roles in Man of La Mancha and Ragtime, for which he received Tony Award nominations, and Kiss Me Kate, for which he won the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards.
The cocktail attire event includes an hors d’oeuvres and dessert reception and a special tribute by stars of the Moonlight Stage. The event will celebrate the completion of the new stage house and other amenities at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, which began in September, 2008.
The event will also feature a special “Opening Fanfare” coordinated by Kenneth Gammie. A special tribute to Moonlight includes a short video montage of Moonlight’s history and live vocal performances by Sarah Bermudez, Steven Glaudini, Danny Gurwin and Bets Malone, who have all performed in starring roles in past Moonlight seasons.
